TEFL Certification Program

Internationally-recognized English Teaching Certificate

In response to many requests, LCTI now offers a new TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) program. Our 1-year TEFL course begins each Fall. The TEFL Certificate is a joint LCTI-Great Northern University program that adheres to international standards. Our TEFL Certificate opens doors for English teaching positions across the world.

The Certificate includes instruction in proven principles of cross-cultural English language teaching (both EFL and ESL); up-to-date methods and practices for teaching listening, reading, speaking and writing; principles for effective cross-cultural delivery of curriculum; class-room management and assessment; and effective strategies for teaching grammar. Curriculum is overseen by a professional linguist who is Dean of Great Northern University’s College of Professional Studies. Instructors in this program have a minimum of an accredited Masters Degree in TESOL or other branch of Applied Linguistics. Components include:

  • Principles for inter-cultural communication in teaching English

  • How to develop effective lesson plans and curriculum for cross-cultural contexts

  • How to integrate linguistic and biblical principles for effective English teaching

  • Application of insights from research to all aspects of English teaching

  • Effective teaching strategies: Grammar, Receptive and productive language skills

  • Effective methods of instruction, assessment and class management for real-life cross-cultural teaching

  • Includes a teaching Practicum in a local ESL program and ministry outreach opportunity.

Professional and Qualified Staff

Our International TEFL Certificate program is led (and taught) by professionals who are highly qualified, and who have many years of experience training English learners and new teachers. Most staff have taught English both overseas and in the U.S. and bring a passion for using English as ministry to everything they do with our students both in and outside the classroom. Equipping you to engage your world is our calling and passion!
